L’Abbaye Notre-Dame de Scourmont, is Forges (Chimay), Belgium and is an abbey of the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance (Trappists). Its construction is dated in the second half of the nineteenth century and is run by the monks of the order of Citeaux. The origins of Scourmont connect to a community of Cistercian monks of Westvleteren in the area, which the Abbot Jourdain (priest of the region of Chimay) sent to settle on land offered by the Prince of Chimay. Shortly after their arrival they began to work the land located in the Mont du Secours where they built primarily an agricultural sector and then the buildings of the abbey. Very quickly the beer produced by Trappist monks acquired a reputation that went beyond the borders of Belgium.
